Rutland man injured after being run over by his own vehicle

On Thursday, March 18, at 6:14 a.m. state troopers from the Rutland Barracks were notified of a single vehicle crash with injury at the intersection of Route 7 and East Pittsford Road in Rutland Town.

Through investigation it was determined Brian Tarmy, 50, of Rutland Town was driving a 2011 GMC Terrain and came to a stop on East Pittsford Road. Tarmy put the SUV in park and exited it to check the rear seat. The SUV then began rolling into Route 7. Tarmy tried to stop it but was struck by the rear door, which resulted in his falling and the rear tire running over his left leg.

The unoccupied vehicle continued to roll across Route 7 where it went down an embankment, striking several trees and a large rock. Tarmy’s car sustained moderate damage to the left fender and front bumper.

State police were assisted on scene by the Rutland Town Fire Department, Regional Ambulance Service, Howe Center Auto, and Carrara’s Towing.
