Young Traditions Touring Group to perform virtually

Saturday, March 6 at 7 p.m.—RANDOLPH—The Young Tradition Touring Group will perform a 45-60 minute online concert on Saturday, March 6 starting at 7 p.m. for the Chandler Center for The Arts in Randolph. Featured will be the 20 teen members of the Touring Group. An opening set will feature the 2020/2021 Youth Commission ensemble led by Maeve Fairfax and four other Touring Group members. Artist leaders Oliver Scanlon, Fern Tamagini-O’Donnell and Hilary Menegaz Weitzner will also be featured.

The Young Tradition Touring Group was the last group to perform a regular event at Chandler prior to the Covid related Mach 2020 shut-down measures by the governor and therefore the final performance of last year’s tour.  Chandler is delighted to be also their chosen “premiere” event for this year’s tour.

This group is comprised of regional teens who focus on learning and performing traditional music and dance over the course of an early September through early May season, including an April performance tour. Group members learn from and are supported by artist leaders, visiting and guest master musicians and dancers/dance leaders, in addition to musical exchanges with master artists, young musicians and dancers while on performance tours. Groups have previously traveled to Scotland, Cape Breton Island, England, Ireland, Japan, and New York/New Jersey. Because of Covid-19 travel restrictions the group will be traveling virtually in late April of this year, visiting with master artists and other youth organizations in Ireland, eastern Canada, England and elsewhere.  Members have virtually rehearsed, participated in fundraising, and performed regionally in anticipation of the virtual April tour. Group members are mostly from Vermont, but also include members from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, and Ontario. The group is preparing videos produced by Mark Zelis to share with others during the tour in April, one of which will be premiered at the Chandler Center on March 6.

The performance is presented by the Chandler Center for the Arts in Randolph. Requested donation $7. Info at 802-728-9878. www.chandler-arts.org. For more information about Young Tradition Vermont visit youngtraditionvermont.org or facebook.com/YoungTraditionVermont.
