This winter, Vermont law enforcement is cracking down on unlawful off-trail riding for snowmobilers. And they’re ticketing violators.
“So spread the word,” Vermont Association of Snow Travelers (V.A.S.T.) stated in a recent news release.
In Vermont 80% of land is privately owned and those landowners get no compensation for allowing recreational trails and access to their property, so it is important everyone follow the rules in order to ensure continued access.
Off Trail Riding (technically known as “operating on private land without permission”) equates to a $300 fine in Vermont. VAST offers 5,000 of miles of on-trail riding in the state, so there is plenty of terrain to ride without straying off-trail.
