Krevetski’s knowledge and experience in health and wellness can help fuel new job opportunities in the growing local food economy
Rutland City activist, retired RRMC nurse, and a founding member of Vermont Farmers Food Center (VFFC), Kathleen Krevetski, has filed to run for Rutland City mayor.
Krevetski believes the local food economy is the driving factor of Rutland City’s future success with the creation of jobs in the food industry serving as a sustainable, regenerative, locally-sourced economic engine for the Rutland region that will improve the health and well-being of the whole community.
“No one living in the city should be left behind,” Krevetski says.
Krevetski considers herself to be fiscally conservative but acknowledges people in Rutland may be going hungry amid the COVID-19 pandemic. If elected, Krevetski with focus new job creation, new business opportunities, and economic growth as well as issues pertaining to property taxes and the opiate crisis.
With a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from Hartford Connecticut’s Trinity College and over 30 years’ experience as a registered nurse with expertise in resource management, she believes local government should be playing a much bigger role in promoting sound economic policies that benefit the individual as well as the community.
As a long-term breast cancer survivor, Krevetski knows that nourishing, clean food grown with love by our local farmers is good medicine. Krevetski has lived in the Northwest Neighborhood since 2005 with her husband Wayne, a long-distance hiker who created and ran the Rutland Long Trail Festival. They have two sons and two grandchildren, one of whom is a RCPS student.

Krevetski believes we as a rural community must be able to feed ourselves and thanks in part to the great work of hundreds of volunteers who are helping to grow Vermont Farmers Food Center (VFFC) as an agricultural hub, she believes now is the time to come together as a city to support the agricultural community in their efforts to continue growing the local food industry and the agricultural economy in Rutland County.
Krevetski supports VFFC’s vision of Rutland County embracing its role as “The Heart of Vermont Agriculture,” starting with the rebuilding of the historic blue building next to the Farmers Hall Event Center, home of the year-round Vermont Farmers Market where VFFC envisions the creation of a Farmers Kitchen, a food business incubator which, in its Kitchen Academy, a collaboration with Stafford Tech culinary school, would provide on-the-job culinary skills training.
Krevetski, like so many other VFFC volunteers, will embrace and work very hard for what Vermont Farmers Food Center has in mind as described in their 2020 document titled VFFC- Many Initiatives-One intent – Regenerative Food Safe Local Market. https://www.vermontfarmersfoodcenter.org/our_story Much has been already accomplished with volunteers and donations with little City help since its inception in 2012. The City has been dragging its heels in support of VFFC yet city leaders had little success in recruiting employers from outside the Rutland region.
