Nov. 28- Jan 1. —RANDOLPH—For many years Chandler Center for the Arts has had the good fortune of hosting No Strings Marionettes for a Thanksgiving weekend performance. It has become a tradition that the community looks forward to each year, and one of the first performances in Chandler’s usual packed holiday show line up. This year, with Covid-19, of course that isn’t possible.
But Barbara and Dan Paulson had an idea about how they might offer Chandler and the community an enormous gift. They filmed a version of one of their most popular puppet shows, “Treasure Hunt,” and will provide the show to Chandler.
Barbara gave this reason for this year’s approach: “As puppeteers, we live for that special magic that comes when people get together to experience a show. The realities of Covid shook up our little puppet world, and gave us the opportunity to delve into producing video versions of our shows. We humbly present our first attempt, “Treasure Hunt” to Chandler in order to continue one of our favorite traditions, the Saturday after Thanksgiving show. Thank you Chandler, for reinventing yourself to serve this community when now, more than ever, we need connection and the life-giving energy the arts bring.”
Chandler’s Executive Director, Karen Dillon was so moved by the Paulsons’ generosity that she immediately had the idea of paying it forward. “I know how much this show means to the community, and how many families have made this part of their holiday tradition for the past several years. This year is so difficult for families and I wanted to be able to offer a little holiday cheer in this tough time.”
So, Chandler will in turn give the show away via the Chandler website, starting Saturday, Nov. 28 at 2 p.m. and making it available through Jan. 1. There will be no charge to view the show, but a donate button is available for wanting to support Chandler during this difficult time.
The puppeteers will also be available for a live talk-back on two separate dates.
