Staff report
On Oct. 25, Windsor Central Supervisory Union (WCSU) Interim Superintendent Sherry Sousa wrote two emails to families in the district alerting them of a positive case of Covid-19 in the district and its effect on the community.
After a positive diagnoses of Covid-19 was discovered on Saturday, Oct. 24, Sousa wrote. “Those who have been identified as potential close contacts of the positive individual will be notified by either Sherry Sousa, Superintendent, or Katie Burke, the WCSU Covid Coordinator. If you are identified as a close contact by the Vermont Dept. of Health, a contact tracer will contact you by phone with important information regarding the need for quarantine and potential Covid testing. Please answer your phone if the Dept. of Health contacts you.”
The plan was for all Windsor Central Supervisory Union Schools to remain open and to continue to operate in the hybrid model. Those not contacted by the superintendent or Covid coordinator, would not need to stay home or be excluded from school activities, Sousa wrote.
A few hours later, Sousa sent an update saying: “After continued conversation and collaboration with the Vermont Dept. of Health, it has been determined that no WCSU students or staff members were considered to be ‘close contacts’ of the positive Covid-19 case in our district. The Vermont Dept. of Health continues to case trace this positive case, though they have assured us that our students and staff are not considered close contacts at this time.”
“Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this new school year, it is our desire to keep the lines of communication open, and students in our school buildings in a healthy and safe manner,” Sousa concluded.
