Wright Construction Company recognized for Ludlow home addition

Wright Construction Company (WCC) took home the bronze in Qualified Remodeler magazine’s 2020 Master Design Awards for the category of Addition Over $250,000 for a huge ski home in Ludlow. WCC worked with local kitchen and bath designer Jonni Huntley of Catamount Kitchens and Design to complete the addition. This Vermont vacation home is frequently used to house a family of eight children, who have their own families and extended relatives and friends. Therefore, the home needed more space to reflect its use.

The team worked to make a living space that was suitable for 40-plus family members at a time, a new kitchen that served multiple cooks at once, and a loft that perfectly faced the view of Okemo Mountain, all while merging stylistically and seamlessly with the existing home.

Inside

The original kitchen became an office just off the new master bedroom suite. Now the second-floor flows out into an enormous loft in the addition overlooking the main living space. Many structural and design changes were made to blend the old with the new and bring the outdoors in. The addition was rotated 25 degrees to face the view of the mountains directly, with wood design elements added and updated to keep the aesthetics cohesive.

“We submitted ourselves to just toss our hat into the ring, not expecting anything,” Marketing Coordinator Carly Trombley said. “But when we were awarded the bronze we were thrilled to represent Rutland County and Vermont in the nationally published magazine.”
