Democratic nominee for Vermont lieutenant governor Molly Gray held a community forum in Rutland Saturday, Sept. 19. The event, organized by the Gray campaign and held at Main Street Park, was the third of eight socially-distanced public community forums to take place across Vermont in September.
“Our campaign is committed to reaching every corner of the state to make sure every Vermonter’s voice is heard,” Gray said. “I’m thankful to have had the opportunity to connect with voters in Rutland County today.”
The forum began with remarks from candidates for State Senate, Senator Cheryl Hooker (D), Brittany Cavacas (I) and Michael Shank (I), followed by Democratic candidate for Rutland 5-4, Representative William Notte. Gray invited Republican nominee for lieutenant governor Scott Milne to participate, but Milne did not attend.
The event was moderated by Edinson Oquendo, a faculty member of the political science department at Castleton University.
After opening remarks from local elected officials and candidates, Oquendo introduced Gray and asked questions on issues ranging from criminal justice reform, to child care and paid family leave, to cannabis policy.
Gray then answered questions from community members on the future of Vermont’s foodshed and working lands, racial equity, and broadband investment.
“It was a beautiful fall day spent in Rutland for our third community forum. Thank you to all of those who came out to engage in conversation, pick up lawn signs and soak up some sunshine on the gorgeous town green,” Gray said.
Gray will next participate in the VTDigger debate, broadcast from the Mad River Barn in Waitsfield, Thursday, Sept. 24 at 5:30 p.m.
