Slate Valley Trails presents the Slate Valley Scramble

By Chuck Helfer

Saturday, Sept. 5—POULTNEY—Slate Valley Trails (SVT) is hosting its inaugural trail run race and fundraiser, the Slate Valley Scramble, on Saturday, Sept. 5. The race offers an 8k and half-marathon entirely on singletrack and double-track trails! This event is a fundraiser to support the ongoing stewardship and maintenance of SVT’s trail networks which are free to the public for foot and bicycle use.

The race courses will offer a well-maintained, variable terrain, wooded course. While both courses will have some flat terrain and rolling hills, there will be hills and sustained climbs. Runners will be rewarded with occasional stunning views of Vermont’s Slate Valley. This is a cupless race! Runners are encouraged to bring a water bottle to refill at the cupless aid stations set up along the course. The race will begin and end at the Fairgrounds Trailhead located at 131 Town Farm Road in Poultney.

In an effort to keep this event as safe as possible and keep the number of racers and spectators within the group size limits set forth by the governor of Vermont, SVT has eliminated both the kids’ fun run and post-race celebration/awards ceremony for the 2020 event. Category awards will be given to racers as they cross the finish line.

Additionally, to help the race committee understand the number of racers that will be participating, day of registration will be unavailable for this year. For racers that register for the event early, but may be unable to meet Vermont’s travel restrictions, refunds will be given. The event is open to runners and hikers. The half-marathon begins at 8:30 a.m., and the 8 km will begin at 9:30 a.m. Both courses will close at 1 p.m.

The registration deadline is September 4 at 5 p.m. To register visit runreg.com/slate-valley-scramble.

Support Slate Valley Trails for what is sure to be a fun day in the Vermont woods!
