Mary Ellen “Penny” Maznio, of Killington, died July 13, 2020 in Key Colony Beach, Florida. She was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the daughter of Paul T. and Ellen Marie (Kittredge) Sullivan. She graduated from Hudson Catholic High School in Hudson, Massachusetts. Penny first came up to Killington with her oldest brother Paul, in the early 70’s; her brother left and Penny stayed. She worked, skied and played as the Killington crew did back then. In her early years she worked at the Red Rob Inn, Summit Lodge and Woodstock Inn as well as working in Bar Harbor and Kennebunkport, Maine, during the summers. Penny married Wally Maznio in 1978 and they raised two children here in town. While being a full-time mom, she took charge of all the children’s activities, especially when her husband was away at work. Penny was active on the Sherburne Recreation Committee where she spearheaded the heating of the pool. She was also a big part of the lady tennis players at the Summit Lodge and recreation center courts. She volunteered at RAHA over many years and could be found anywhere from the scorer’s table to working the concession stand. Penny went to practically every sporting event the children were
involved in. She worked for the Killington resort in ticketing from 2000 to 2012. Penny enjoyed working, tennis, kayaking, camping, playing games (Farkle & dominos), Tuesday night meetings, relaxing at her special place in the Florida Keys and whenever she could get her whole family together in one state. Survivors include her husband Wally Maznio and her children Stacey and Jimmy Maznio of Killington; her brothers Edward Sullivan and Brian Sullivan of Plymouth, Massachusetts; her sister in law Patricia Southard of Oceanside, New York; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Penny was predeceased by her brother Paul T. Sullivan, Jr. of Atkinson, New Hampshire.
Her smile and wit will be missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 1 at The Foundry Restaurant in Killington from 2-5 p.m. with all Covid-19 requirements being adhered to.
