POULTNEY—Stone Valley Arts will present the show “Art from Our Own Backyard” Aug. 14 thru Sept. 27, and invites children with their families and artists of all ages to get outdoors, engage with nature and have fun getting creative! Explore your own back yard, hike the Slate Valley Trails, the River and Rail Trails or visit a beautiful park. This is a great way to enjoy the outdoors, explore nature, get creative and come together in celebrating the beautiful natural surroundings of our Vermont home!
Here are a few ways to start… collect natural materials and make art with what you find, or about what you collect; a collage, a mobile, a shadow box, a series of drawings, photos, or paintings of what you’ve discovered. Or pick one thing and create a themed art project about that one item: different color flowers, drawings of mushrooms, photos of clouds.
Make botanical sketches, landscape paintings, a photo study of leaves. Press flowers, dry different plants, make rubbings from tree bark or leaves and use pieces in a mixed media project. It can be as simple as a pencil and paper, or as intricate as you can imagine.
Drop off your completed art projects, by Aug. 9, to Stone Valley Arts at 145 East Main St. (across from the Poultney High School) Sundays 1-4 p.m. to be included in a community art show. Art from our own backyard, nature trails and parks will be on exhibit at Stone Valley Arts from Aug. 14 – Sept. 27, 2020.
