PAWLET—The Pawlet Public Library announces a free 5-day summer camp for children grades 1-6, Aug. 10-14, 9 a.m.-noon. “Imagine: Five Days of Fantasy and Wonder” features stories and activities each day, led by Catherine Hunter, the library’s literacy specialist. Space is very limited and advanced registrations are required.
The camp is planned to occur indoors and outdoors at the Pawlet Public Library. Children are asked to wear a mask and bring their own snack. If the library determines in August that in-person programming with limited capacity is not advisable due to COVID-19, campers can stop by the library’s curbside pickup for “take and make” activities each camp day.
Readings will feature stories about castles, fairies, gnomes, Japanese Oni monsters, dragons, and unicorns. Children will make their own castle flag, build a fairy/gnome rock garden, paint a Japanese Oni mask, then dance and drum, make dragon scales and eggs, and create unicorn horns. On the last day, campers will take home a colorful cloth bag and a fairy tale anthology book to share with their families.
The summer camp is co-sponsored by Stewart’s Holiday Match, the Children’s Literacy Foundation, and Vermont Department of Libraries. Advance registration is required due to limited capacity.
