Mount Holly man dies in car crash Monday

SHREWSBURY— On Monday, June 1 at about 3:30 p.m., state police troopers responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash in the area of Route 103 north of Town Hill Road in Shrewsbury.

Preliminary investigation indicated that a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze, operated by Ryan Ahonen, 21, of Mount Holly, was traveling northbound when Ahonen crossed the solid double yellow centerline into the southbound travel lane and crashed into a 2005 Freightliner tractor, operated by Benjamin Dufield, 49, of Springfield.

Ahonen was pronounced deceased at the scene. Dufield was uninjured. Both were reportedly wearing seat belts.

Both vehicles sustained heavy front end damage and were towed from the scene.

The state Police were assisted on scene by members of the Shrewsbury Fire Dept., Rutland City Fire Dept., Regional Ambulance Service, Wallingford Rescue, Mount Holly Rescue, and the Vermont Dept. of Motor Vehicles Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division.

This crash is under investigation, anyone with information regarding this crash should contact the Vermont State Police, Rutland Barracks at 802-773-9101.
