Experience storytelling program ‘The Western Star’ at Trinity Church

Saturday, Jan. 11 at 4:30 p.m.—RUTLAND— Trinity Church will be hosting a storytelling program by solo artist Jack DesBois called “The Western Star.”

And so the ageing year began to die,

And each cold morn the sun grew later still,

And each lamented eve more heavy-lidded

Fell back beyond the wise king’s earthly realm.

Until, that is, one frigid, glassy night…

A solo storytelling performance in poetry and song, “The Western Star” evokes a meditative, liminal atmosphere through the rhythms of language and flickering candlelight. The poem is a celebration of light in darkness, the turning of the seasons, and the ever-renewing hope of Epiphany.

Come join Trinity Episcopal Church in making the journey of the Three Kings an unforgettably moving community tradition.

Jack DesBois is a Middlebury-based actor, singer and poet dedicated to sharing joy through live performance.

In addition to “The Western Star,” Jack’s unique solo repertoire includes “V is the Valley,” a conversation with the folk songs of Vermont; and “Shakespeare’s Songs,” a centuries-spanning exploration of the Bard’s music. He also performs with Opera Company of Middlebury and the Middlebury Bach Festival, and he is a Teaching Artist for Courageous Stage’s “Shakespeare, It’s Elementary” literacy programs.

This event includes a potluck dinner (visitors are welcome to bring a dish to share), and culminates with a “King Cake.”

The “King” for the evening will be determined by who finds the bean baked into the cake, and our king will be charged with a special kingly task!

Trinity Church is located at 85 West St. in Rutland.
