Hike in Shrewsbury with the Green Mountain Club

Saturday, Dec. 14 at 9 a.m.—SHREWSBURY—The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife is planning to conserve a 500+ acre property in Shrewsbury as a new wildlife management area. The Green Mountain Club is hosting a hike to explore the area. To join the hike, meet at Main Street Park in Rutland at 9 a.m. or the Shrewsbury meeting house parking lot, Lottery Road Wildlife Corridor Loop, at 9:30 a.m.

The hike will be on a wood road that follows a north/south ridge on the property, starting from the foundations of a former barn of the Shrewsbury Town Poor Farm, connecting to the Long Trail/Appalachian Trail near Clarendon Shelter, then heading north on the LT/AT to Lottery Road, concluding with a road walk back to our starting point. This is a moderate hike covering approximately 4 miles.

Newcomers and nonmembers are welcome on outings. Bring drinking water and a lunch. Wear sturdy footwear, dress appropriately for the weather and be prepared for weather changes. This is Vermont!
