Rustic Overtones
Thursday, March 28, 8 p.m.—KILLINGTON— Rustic Overtones, a nationally recognized rock band hailing from Portland, Maine, is making its way to Killington for the Pickle Barrel’s final Thursday night show of the season, March 28. What better way to send off Thursday nights than with the unique, indie sounds of Rustic Overtones.
Strongly influenced by the soul music, garage punk, jazz and psychedelic music of the ‘60s and ‘70s, Rustic Overtones brings together Earth, Wind and Fire-style funk and late-era Beatles psychedelia.
The group’s early hits “Long Division,” “My Dirt” (EP) and “Rooms By The Hour,” were independently released through Portland based Ripchord Records. In 1999 they were discovered by Kurt St. Thomas, Boston’s WFNX former program director. Rustic signed to Arista Records where their musical career took off.
In 2001, the group released “Viva Nueva” under a new label. The following years led to Rustic returning to their roots with “Light At The End,” “A New Way Out” and “Let’s Start a Cult.” Adding to its impressive fingerprint within the music world, Rustic Overtones was the first band in history to be broadcast live into space via satellite. The year 2014 was a special year, marking its 20 year anniversary together.
Band members include Dave Gutter (vocals and guitar), Jon Roods (bass), Jason Ward (baritone sax, flute), Gary Gemmiti (drums), Michael Taylor (keys, percussion, vocals) and Kyle Hardy (tenor and alto sax). The band is best known for its energetic live shows and perceptual songwriting.
The Rustic Overtones have collaborated and recorded with notable stars such as David Bowie, Imogen Heap, Ray Lamontagne, Eric Krasno, Funkmaster Flex and Naughty by Nature.
The group’s show at the Pickle Barrel will act as a celebration not only of life, but of the band, its members, fans, and the passionate music they create. This special show will honor the group’s late lead trombonist, Dave Noyes. Noyes passed away earlier this month at the age of 45.
SixFoxWhiskey is set to open for Rustic Overtones. Doors open at 8 p.m. This is a 21-plus show only and is the last Thursday night show of the season. Pickle Barrel Nightclub is located at 1741 Killington Road, Killington. For more information, visit picklebarrelnightclub.com.
