Local primary results are here

Unofficial primary election results from Aug. 14 are in.

Incumbent Gov. Phil Scott will face Democrat Christine Hallquist in the general election in November.

Hallquist, who could be country’s first openly transgender governor, edged out Democrat competitors James Ehlers, Brenda Siegel and Ethan Sonneborn with 40 percent of the vote. Scott beat Republican challenger Keith Stern with more than 60 percent of the vote in unofficial results.

In local Senate races, incumbent Windsor County Democrats Alison Clarkson, Dick McCormack and Alice Nitka will face Republicans Randy Gray, Jack Williams and Wayne Townsend in the primary election.

For Rutland County’s three Senate seats, incumbent Brian Collamore as well as James McNeil and Edward Larson beat Terry Williams and incumbent David Soucy on the Republican side. They face no Democrat challengers in the general election.

Collamore received 21 percent of the votes, followed by McNeil with 17 percent,  Larson with 12.6 percent, Williams with 12.3 percent and Soucy with 10 percent in unofficial results.

In House election results, Republican Jim Harris, who ran unopposed in the primary election will face Democrat Gina Ottoboni for a house seat for the Rutland-Windsor-1 District in the general election.

Incumbent Patricia A. McCoy faced no challengers for a House seat representing the Rutland-1 district.

Newcomer and Democrat Rebecca White defeated incumbent Kevin Christie for a house seat representing Windsor 4-2. White is facing no Republican challengers in the general election.

Democrat Charlie Kimbell was unchallenged for a House seat representing the Windsor-5 district.

Republican Karl Anderson defeated Nicole Mcphee for Rutland County probate judge with 49 percent of the vote. He faces Democrat incumbent Eleanor Smith in the general election. Smith ran unopposed in the primary election.
