Worthy ice cream! Sweet and Salty to serve creemees, froyo year-round

WOODSTOCK—Five years after opening Worthy Kitchen, bringing local food and casual dining to the region, the restaurant owners have opened a new year-round creemee and frozen yogurt shop.

Sweet and Salty, located by the Woodstock Welcome Center off Main Street, had a soft opening Wednesday, June 27. An official open and ribbon cutting is planned for the coming weeks.

Sweet and Salty offers two different frozen yogurt flavors (strawberry and salted caramel pretzel) and four creemee flavors (maple, fruity pebbles, vanilla and chocolate).

“There’s nothing like it in town,” said owner Jason Merrill.

Customers can dispense their own ice cream and add their own toppings, including chocolate chip cookies, rainbow and chocolate sprinkles, Oreos and candy.

Merrill purchased the building, formerly a real estate office, and worked on construction and remodeling the interior for two months before opening.

Sweet and Salty adds to Worthy’s list of popular restaurants, which started with Worthy Burger in South Royalton in 2012. Worthy Kitchen opened in Woodstock in 2013. The owners are planning another Worthy Burger expansion in Waitsfield this August.

“It’s all about the staff,” said Merrill. “We take care of them and they work hard for us.”

Sweet and Salty has outdoor patio seating for the summer.  It also serves hot dogs and pretzels. Eventually it will feature a sandwich of the day from the Worthy Kitchen menu, which could include a fried chicken sandwich or pulled pork sandwich. Sweet and Salty also serves coffee and drinks.

“We’re seeing what people want right now,” Merrill said.

Merrill hired two full time and two part time to run Sweet and Salty. “We think Woodstock is in need of something fun like this—something more casual and relaxing,” Merrill said.

Sweet and Salty is open 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
