Saturday, May 5, 7:30 p.m.—RANDOLPH—Haydn’s “Mass in Troubled Times” will be the featured work at the Vermont Philharmonic’s spring concert at the Chandler Center for the Arts on Saturday, May 5 at 7:30 p.m. The program will also include Brahms’ orchestral “Variations on a Theme” by Haydn and a “Scandinavian Suite for Solo Viola and Strings,” featuring composer Frank Foerster as soloist.
The D minor Mass – “Missa in Angustiis” – is perhaps better known as the “Lord Nelson Mass.” The orchestra will accompany the Randolph Singers, directed by Marjorie and M. Dickey Drysdale, with soloists Stephanie Leotsakos (soprano), Elizabeth Perryman (alto), Adam Hall (tenor), and Thomas Beard (baritone). The concert kicks off the Randolph Singers’ 50th anniversary celebration; the group was founded by a dozen or so area residents in 1968 when the local PTA wanted to sponsor a Broadway show to raise funds. The Randolph Singers is a non-auditioned chorus usually comprised of about 50 area residents and performs two concerts annually.
