BROC-Community Action in Southwestern Vermont is an Internal Revenue Service recognized Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site. Certified staff and volunteers from the Castleton University accounting program are available to prepare and file Federal income tax returns, Vermont income tax return, Homestead Declaration and Property Tax Adjustment Claim, Household Income Schedule and Renter Rebate Claim. The VITA program offers free tax help to people who generally make $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities, the elderly and tax payers with limited English who need assistance in preparing their tax returns. Appointments can be made in Rutland County by calling 802-775-0878 or in Bennington County by calling 802-447-7515.
