Brownsville church invites public to Advent and Christmas concert and carol sing

Sunday, Dec. 18 at 5 —BROWNSVILLE—On Sunday, Dec. 18, Brownsville Community Church will sponsor an Advent & Christmas Concert & Carol sing, the third of a series of free concerts this year open to the public. Talent from the Church community and the wider community will come together to offer a seasonal concert and concert goers can participate in a festive carol sing all starting at 5 p.m. Admission is free.
Singing “The People That Walked in Darkness” and “Comfort Ye and Every Valley” from Handel’s “The Messiah” will be Christopher Schmitt, bass. He will be accompanied by Pastor Christian on the organ.
On violin will be Justin Truell who grew up in Woodstock. Truell studied under Rev. Huebner at Mid Vermont Christian School and made his solo debut at age 17 playing Lalo Symphonie Espagnole, Op.21 with the Vermont Youth Orchestra (VYO). Playing with the VYO presented him with numerous opportunities including conducting apprenticeships, masterclasses as well as the VYO.
Another gifted local artist, Windsor’s Alexandria Leary, will be on piano. Leary is a talented young musician who plays with expression and maturity uncharacteristic for her age. She is currently studying under the area’s top piano performance instructor. She will perform solo “L’Orage” Op. 109, No. 3 by J. Burgmuller & ”Divertimento Trio” KV 254 (W. A. Mozart); and will be accompanied by her father, Christie Leary, on cello for “O Come O Come Emanuel.”
Ms. Leary will join Noah Huebner from Weathersfield, a student of Mid Vermont Christian School, to delight with “The First Noel” on piano and trumpet.
More talent includes Hartland’s Lois Krieger who will perform “Rise Up, Shepherd, and Follow,” Arr. Mark Hill and “Kuusi (The Spruce Tree)” Op 75, No. 5 Jean Sibelius on piano accompanied by Pastor Christian on organ. Grace Winter, a senior at Mid Vermont Christian School from Weathersfield, will perform “Estrellita” (M. Ponce) on the flute. Pastor Christian has arranged a prelude to “Bleak Midwinter” which he will present on the organ.
The concert will be followed by Christmas cookies, hot chocolate and warm spiced apple cider.
This season of celebration can also present challenges for our some of neighbors. Concert goers are invited and encouraged to bring a canned good which will be donated to the local food shelf.
A free-will offering will be received at the concert to help offset costs.
