VSO Holiday Pops opens Sunday Matinee Series

Sunday, Dec. 11 at 3 p.m.—The Vermont Symphony Orchestra (VSO) kicks off its Sunday Matinee Series in southwestern Vermont this season with three performances at the Paramount Theatre in Rutland. The series opens with a Holiday Pops concert on Dec. 11 at 3 p.m. featuring the VSO Chorus, José Daniel Flores-Carraballo, director and Anthony Princiotti conducting holiday favorites. Additional concerts are Jan. 22 featuring VSO concertmaster Katherine Winterstein and March 19 with guest artist Nokuthula Ngwenyama, viola. The January and March concerts are preceded by Musically Speaking, pre-concert discussions with guest artists providing insight into the program, the composers, and themselves. The discussions begin one hour before the stated concert time.
The Vermont Symphony Orchestra Chorus joins the VSO for a festive celebration of the season. In addition to excerpts from Messiah, traditional favorites, and a carol singalong, the program includes a marvelous piece by Sowah Mensah from Ghana that features African percussion. Nothing gets you in the mood for the holidays like joyful music, so make merry with your symphony orchestra this Christmas.
The Vermont Symphony Orchestra is the only professional statewide orchestra providing live musical experiences for listeners in Vermont. It is a state-assisted non-profit institution founded in 1935 and exists for the purpose of fostering and encouraging the appreciation of music in all its various forms, with emphasis on orchestral, choral and chamber music.
Tickets for the Holiday Pops are available online at paramountlive.org or by calling 802-775-0903. The Paramount Theatre is located at 30 Center Street, Rutland.
