RUTLAND — Firefighters with the Rutland Fire Department responded to smoke in downtown Rutland Sunday afternoon, which closed a portion of Center Street.
After investigation, the smoke was determined to have been caused by an improperly functioning woodstove in a restaurant.
Rutland Fire Department Chief Michael Jones said the department received reports at 12:43 p.m. Sunday afternoon of smoke at the Yellow Deli building at 23 Center Street. A firetruck and seven firefighters arrived on the scene and closed off Center Street between Wales Street and Depot Park. Firefighters located the source of the smoke in a woodstove behind the Yellow Deli that was not properly cleaned. Firefighters ventilated the stove and advised it be cleaned.
No injuries were reported.
