“A Christmas Carol” to be told story time-style

Dec. 10, 11 & 17—Begin the holiday season with Shakespeare on Main Street (SoMS) as they present the timeless holiday classic “A Christmas Carol” in intimate story time style in Brandon, Poultney and Dorset on Dec. 10, 11, and 17.
In “A Christmas Carol,” author Charles Dickens explores the morality of the love of money over the love of family and people. Scrooge sees the way his life has slipped into a basically unhappy and lonely old age where he has lost the possibility of love and friendship. This holiday masterwork is a story of compassion, forgiveness and redemption.
SoMS director Gary Meitrott adapts “Readers Theater” style to include costuming and movement by the actors, adding a dramatic element to the performance. With simple yet elegant Victorian furniture and costuming, five actors bring all the characters to life using Dickens’ original words. It’s like a storybook come to life.
Meitrott, a lover of classic literature and founder of SoMS, says, “Even though we are all connected electronically, we are also isolated as individuals. ‘A Christmas Carol’ rings truer than ever in its lesson to give and to love with every moment we have.”
The cast features Virginia Bones, Oisin Harrington, David Kiefner, Eric Korzun, and Jonathan White.
Performances will be held Saturday, Dec. 10, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at Brandon Town Hall Theatre, 1 Conant Square, Brandon; Sunday, Dec. 11, 2 p.m. at Stone Valley Arts Center, 145 E Main Street, Poultney; and Saturday, Dec. 17, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 18, 2 p.m. at Dorset Playhouse, 104 Cheney Road, Dorset.
Tickets for Brandon and Poultney are $15 adults, $9 youth, and children under 10 are free. Dorset tickets are $15 adults, $13 members, and $9 youth 18 and under.
