Accident closes Route 100, wires down no injury

PITTSFIELD—On Friday, Dec. 2, at 4:44 p.m. Vermont State Police Troopers from the Rutland Station responded to a one vehicle traffic crash located on Vermont Route 100 at the South Hill Road intersection located in Pittsfield.
Through investigation it was determined Susan April, age 67 from Waterbury, Vt., was traveling north on Route 100, with her husband William April, 66, as a passenger. Police reported that Susan April fell asleep at the wheel and as a result traveled off the east side of the road where the vehicle struck a utility pole. As a result of the crash the utility pole was severed resulting in power wires to cross the road, which closed Route 100.
Susan and William April were both transported by ambulance to the Gifford Medical Center for medical evaluations. Neither were injured. Both were wearing seatbelts.
Their vehicle, a 2012 Ford Focus, was deemed a total loss.
Troopers were assisted on scene by the Pittsfield Volunteer Fired Department, Killington Volunteer Fire Department, White River Valley Ambulance Service  and Green Mountain Power.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the Vermont State Police, Rutland Station at 802-773-9101.
