Stafford Tech students win big in cooking contest

On Friday, Nov. 18 at the Lost Nation Theater in Montpelier, members of the Stafford Technical Center’s culinary arts class competed in the eighth annual Culinary Classic competition against teams from other Vermont tech centers.

The student competitors were Eric Morton, a senior second year culinary student from Rutland High School; Noah Hamilton, a junior second year culinary student from Otter Valley High School (Brandon); and Emily Clement, a senior first year culinary student from Fair Haven Union High School.

The students prepared pan-seared pork loin with a cider and apple sauce; a hearty mushroom barley soup; and a crepe stuffed with sweet mascarpone, apple compote, and toasted pepitas. Dishes were made from scratch in less than an hour and judged by professionals in the food industry.

This is the second year in a row Stafford Technical Center came in first place at the Culinary Classic. The budding chefs each won a Mercier knife kit and a $4,000 scholarship to New England Culinary Institute.
