Hunger Free Vermont receives $30,000 grant from Newman’s Own Foundation

On Oct. 26, Hunger Free Vermont announced that it had been awarded a $30,000 grant from Newman’s Own Foundation, the independent foundation created by the late actor and philanthropist Paul Newman.
Newman’s Own Foundation made the award to Hunger Free Vermont as part of a broader commitment to support programs that increase access to fresh food and nutrition education in underserved communities. This funding will help Hunger Free Vermont to offer nutrition education in communities across Vermont—teaching Vermont youth and adults how to shop for and prepare nutritious meals on small budgets.
“We are honored and incredibly grateful to receive such significant support from Newman’s Own Foundation for the Learning Kitchen, Hunger Free Vermont’s cooking and nutrition education program that has been serving Vermonters for the last fifteen years,” remarked Marissa Parisi, Hunger Free Vermont’s executive director. “Many of our neighbors struggle to make ends meet to afford healthy food for themselves and their families. The Learning Kitchen helps teach how to stretch a limited food budget and still put healthy meals on the table.”

Since 1982, Newman’s Own Foundation has donated more than $475 million to thousands of charities around the world and has given more than $11.5 million to nutrition-focused organizations since 2014. The Foundation continues Paul Newman’s commitment to give all net profits and royalties from the sale of Newman’s Own food and beverage products to charity.
