VERMONT—The “Way to Go!” challenge, a two-week event encouraging everyone to travel smart, is back Sept. 26-Oct. 7.
In previous years, the challenge has taken place in the spring. While the event has seen great participation in the past, new dates this year aim to encourage even more participation.
“We’re excited to see how the fall season impacts participation this year. Not only is Fall a beautiful time of year to be outside, but this provides more time to promote the event, so we’re expecting many more Vermonters to take the Challenge,” said Ross MacDonald, State of Vermont public transit coordinator and Go Vermont program manager.
The fall timing also aims to improve participation with college and university students, who will just be starting their school year. K-12 schools have a big incentive to participate this year, with a Vermont-manufactured AllEarth Solar Tracker up for grabs, which is estimated to save the winning school $85,000 in power cost over the life of the tracker.
Individuals and businesses have incentives to participate as well. In addition to the Carbon Cup award, businesses or organizations can challenge a competitor to a Carbon Throwdown, in which the winner will receive a trophy. Individuals who sign up will be automatically entered into drawings for other prizes throughout the summer and fall. The earlier individuals sign up, the more chances they have to win great prizes, like an Apple iPad, Apple TV, Go Pro, Nest Thermostat, gift certificates, and more.
Designed to encourage a culture of shared mobility, “Way to Go!” seeks to get people moving, support cleaner air and reduce fossil fuel consumption. Registration is open at waytogovt.org.
