CSJ Weekly Athletics Roundup

College of St. Joseph had another busy week in athletics, playing seven different match-ups. The men’s soccer team was able to notch the first win of the season for any CSJ team, moving their record to 1-4 overall.
Women’s soccer fell to Paul Smiths College in their only match this past week. They are now 0-4 on the season.
Women’s volleyball played in three matches over the weekend. They were competitive, but fell in straight sets to all three teams, putting them at 0-5 overall so far.
The CSJ golf team was also in action this weekend. They came in fourth place out of six teams in a tournament hosted by NHTI.
Here is a closer look at how the week in sports went down.
Sept. 8
The men’s soccer team got things started off this week when they traveled to Vermont Technical College to take on the Green Knights. The Fighting Saints played well but ended up falling to VTC 3-2. Senior Dominick Simpson scored the two goals for CSJ.
Sept. 10
The women’s volleyball team played in three matches on Saturday, which would be a tall task for any team. They faced Yankee Small College Conference opponents Unity, Maine–Machias and Great Bay CC. They fell to each team in straight sets, but scored in double figures and got more than 20 points on a number of occasions.
The men’s soccer team earned their first victory of the season after beating Paul Smith’s 3-0. Amani Francois scored off of a corner kick with an assist by Helder Andrade, who would add a goal of his own later in the half. Alex Andrade added CSJ’s final goal in the second half.
The women’s soccer team fell to Paul Smith’s 7-0. They had some opportunities offensively, but were unable to convert on them. Florence Tavares added 15 more saves, a category she continues to lead in the USCAA.
The golf team came in fourth place in a tournament hosted by NHTI. Alec Babyak led the way for the Saints, finishing with a team best 89.
