Saturday, Sept. 3 at 1 p.m.—ORWELL—September is Vermont Archaeology Month, and the Mount Independence State Historic Site in Orwell is hosting an afternoon of short films relating to the historic sites in western Vermont on Saturday, Sept. 3 from 1 to 4 p.m.
Films include “Champlain: The Lake Between,” “Guns Over the Champlain Valley,” “Building Independence on Lake Champlain,” “The Voices of Hubbardton, 1977” footage of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Hubbardton, “Commemorating the Battle of Bennington,” and “More than Steel: The Lake Champlain Bridge Story.”
The program is included with the admission of $5 for adults and free for children under 15, and includes the museum and all the trails. Call 802-948-2000 for more information.
The Mount Independence State Historic Site is one of the best preserved Revolutionary War archeological sites. It is located at 497 Mount Independence Road, six miles west of the intersections of Vermont Routes 22A and 73 near Orwell village. Carefully follow the signs. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Oct. 10.
