Weight loss program starts in September
RUTLAND – According to the World Health Organization, nearly two-thirds of Americans are overweight yet 50 percent of American women and 25 percent of men are currently on a diet. These two statistics seem to be at odds and beg the question: What’s not working?
Community Health Education at Rutland Regional Medical Center is offering its second wellness and weight loss workshop to assist participants to lose weight while adopting habits and tactics that introduce sustainable behavior changes for maximum, long-term results.
“The ultimate goal, beyond the weight loss itself, is to introduce a mindset as well as a set of behaviors that are anchored in making healthy choices,” said Elizabeth Dulli, Community Health Education Coordinator. “We want participants to focus on wellness, rather than on the concept of ‘dieting.’”
The program will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. at the CVPS/Leahy Community Health Education Center at RRMC and begins on Sept. 26. The balance of the classes will be held on Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 with the final two classes on Nov. 7 and 14.
This entire course is medically supervised and is designed for obese/overweight community members. Presenters include Elizabeth Dulli, RN, MS; Thomas Poole, DPT; Sheila Sharrow, LICSW; Bonnie Olson, Certified Martha Beck Life Coach; and Bethany Yon, Ph.D.
The pilot program was introduced in spring of this year and, based on encouraging feedback, some modifications have been made. A key change is the addition of two additional weeks creating an eight-week course. It is anticipated that this additional time will help to make this a more successful effort for our participants. Along with this, a weight loss/weight management support group will be established after this session to assist participants to continue their journey in healthy eating and weight management.
The Strategic Topics of this wellness/weight loss program include: diet/nutrition, fitness/exercise, stress management and sleep, psychological and physiological examination of food addiction and overeating.
Registration is required for the workshop. The cost is $20 for the entire eight-week course. For more info or to register, visit www.RRMC.org or call 802-772-2400.
