State Announces Open Farm Week, Aug, 15-21

Experience the “farm” in “farm to table”
Aug. 15-21—STATEWIDE—The Vermont Dept. of Tourism & Marketing is promoting the second annual Vermont Open Farm Week from Monday to Sunday, Aug. 15 to 21. Each day, farms across the state will open their doors to showcase their part in Vermont’s vibrant local agricultural traditions and offer visitors an authentic Vermont experience.
The inaugural Open Farm Week in 2015 was an exciting start to this new tradition. More than 80 farms participated, and every farmer who responded to the post-event survey indicated a desire to hold Open Farm Week again. Organizers anticipate an even greater number of farms and visitors participating in 2016.
Open Farm Week gives the public a behind-the-scenes look at Vermont’s working landscape. Last year’s events ranged from tastings and tours to tractor rides and on-farm dinners.
Open Farm Week is a project of the Vermont Farm to Plate Network’s Agritourism Task Force, whose members include City Market, NOFA-VT, the Vermont Farmers’ Market Association, UVM Extension, Vermont Farm Tours, Vermont Fresh Network, DigInVT, Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing, Shelburne Farms, and the Farm-Based Education Network.
