JOE MOORE BAND
Thursday, Aug. 4 at 7 p.m.—FAIR HAVEN—The Fair Haven Concerts in the Park welcomes a new band to the stage this Thursday, Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. The concert will feature some very talented musicians from the Burlington area, the Joe Moore Band. They perform a wide variety of American rhythm and blues, funk, and jazz, based on Moore’s life-long experience as a powerhouse saxophone player and vocalist. He can lead his band through James Brown, Ray Charles, Maceo Parker, King Curtis, Duke Ellington, and others, with authority.
Depending upon the occasion, instrumental jazz pieces like “Take the A Train” or “Caravan” may be on tap, or, alternatively, foot-tapping, hip-swaying funk numbers like Maceo Parker’s “The Chicken,” or James Brown’s “Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag.” All performances are rooted in Moore’s life of playing alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones, often working and touring with original composers. His powerful saxophone has developed a reputation for intense, high energy performances, stunning technique and musical prowess. He has performed in bands opening for musicians as diverse as Martha Reeves, Taj Mahal, Ricky Skaggs and Tower of Power. Along with other local musicians, Moore has shared the stage with Bo Diddley, Joe Lovano, Big Joe Burrell and Archie Shepp.
The venue for this event is the Fair Haven park located in the center of town. The concert committee’s goal is to provide an evening of entertainment and fun for folks of all ages. Each week the intermission brings a door prize drawing of items for both youth and adults. The 50/50 has been very popular and is also drawn at intermission. Rain location is the Baptist Church.
