RUTLAND — On July 24 at 5:15 a.m., members of the Vermont State Police, while patrolling State Street in Rutland City, located a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was stopped in the middle of the roadway.
The operator, who was later identified as Brandon Monaco, age 21 of Rutland, was found slumped behind the steering wheel. Monaco had his foot on the brake, however the vehicle was still in drive. The doors were locked and windows were rolled up. With the assistance of the Rutland City Police Department and Regional Ambulance Service, law enforcement officials were able to block the wheels with rocks to avoid the vehicle from crashing into emergency personal or other vehicles. Entry was made into the vehicle and the vehicle was secured in a safe manner.
Monaco was transported to the Rutland Regional Medical Center for possible medical issues. Alcohol was considered a contributing factor to this incident and the investigation remains active, reported Sergeant Henry J. Alberico of the Vermont State Police.
