KILLINGTON—With five more weeks left of the Town of Killington Summer Camps, kids are enjoying their summers at Killington with adventures in hiking, tubing, swimming, mountain biking, skateboarding, practicing yoga, arts and crafts, as well as time at the library and Adventure Center.

This year the Town of Killington added new programs to its camps, extended the camp from eight weeks to 10, extended its hours, and partnered with Killington Resort.

The changes have led to growth with attendance tripling from last year, according to Kim Peters, director of parks and recreation town of Killington.

“I love watching kids make new friends!” said Peters. “We have campers from all over the area from Barstow [School], Rutland City, Rutland Town, Stockbridge, Castleton, and Killington and, of course, we continue to have campers who come from out of town just for our camps! The more campers we have the more fun the camp is,” she said.

Peters also credit the success of Summer Camps to its counselors. “Cassidy Tedeschi and Marguerite Sommer are the only returning staff. In addition, we have Shelby Smyth; Ariel Mroz-Brewer (both Castleton graduates); Bailey Peters and Dakota Peters; Zoe Zmurko and Drew Patterson (Rutland High School student athletes); Kendra Ganley (a swim coach from Killington); Trevor Van Nei, (a Woodstock graduate), who is our lifeguard for day-trips to the lakes; and last but not least Justine Peters (junior helper for our camps). Without this wonderful staff, our campers would not have as much fun as they have every day, the counselors make it special,” said Peters.

Summer Camps will run until Aug. 26. Registrations are still available at www.killingtonrec.com.
