RUTLAND TOWN—On July 18 at 4:02 p.m., members of the Rutland Town Fire Department, as well as Regional Ambulance Service responded to U.S. Route 4 at Altrui Place in Rutland Town for a report of a single vehicle crash with injuries and air bag deployment.
Investigation at the scene found that 73-year-old Louis Belfore of Killington was driving east on Route 4 when he had a medical emergency (possible stroke), police reported. Belfore’s vehicle then veered left and off the road striking a sign and rock wall at Needham Electric Supply. The crash caused significant damage to his vehicle, a 2011 Kia Sorrento, and the sign.
Members of the above fire department and rescue squad assisted with getting Belfore out of his car after which Belfore was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center by Regional Ambulance Service and treated for a possible stroke.
The Vermont State Police would like to thank several witnesses who stopped and rendered aid until first responders arrived. The crash remains under investigation.
