Rutland Regional Medical Center to replace sewer line dating back to 1950s

RUTLAND – A major sewer line at Rutland Regional Medical Center will be replaced with newer pipes designed to handle higher output volumes. The project will begin on July 11 and will replace an aging sewer line originally installed in 1957. About 300 feet of new 12-inch PVC pipe will improve reliability and capacity and meet the increased needs of patients, visitors and staff. The sewer line to be replaced runs from the main Allen Street entrance south to the Allen Street outpatient services entrance. The project will be completed in two weeks.

A portion of the Allen Street lot will be closed during construction and vehicles will be re-directed to alternate parking lots on-site.

On the evening of July 11 a portion of Allen Street near the Allen Street hospital entrance will be closed to traffic. Traffic officers will direct traffic as necessary around the road closure.

“The lines to be replaced are main sewage lines for the hospital,” said Mary Nemeth, vice president of support services. “Investing in this project was vital to avoid sewer blockages and ensure reliable service to our patients now and well into the future.”
