Rotary scholarships awarded to six GMUHS seniors

CHESTER—On Tuesday, June 7, the Chester Rotary Club presented its annual scholarship awards to six Green Mountain Union High School seniors. The scholarship awards were based on academics, financial need, community service and a written essay.
The evening event was held at the American Legion and was attended by about 65 Rotarians, guests and scholarship winners. Carol Gilbert introduced the scholarship winners to the Rotarians and guests.
The recipient of the Andy and Heidi Ladd $1,000 per year, four-year scholarship was Robert Haseltine, who is a member of the National Honor Society, student government, and played varsity basketball, soccer and baseball. Haseltine will be attending Paul Smith’s College in upstate New York, where he will major in fisheries and wildlife.
The other recipients of the Chester Rotary Scholarship each will receive $1,000. Those recipients were Sarah Baker, Kyle Cyr, Sarah Martel, Megan Spinrad and Lucas Trask.
Sarah Baker is a member of the National Honor Society and served as a class officer during her time at Green Mountain. She played both varsity soccer and softball and will be attending Northeast University, majoring in biology.
Kyle Cyr, the third scholarship winner to be introduced, is a member of the National Honor Society, and participated in varsity baseball and cross country. Cyr will be attending the University of Vermont and will major in business administration.
Sarah Martel was a class officer during her tenure at the school, vice president of Interact during her senior year, a National Honor Society member, and varsity soccer and golf team member. Martel’s goal is to become a pediatric nurse. She will be attending the University of Southern Maine.
Megan Spinrad is a National Honor Society member, was a choir member and was nominated to the District Music Festival in Brattleboro. She actively participated in the school’s dramatic productions. Spinrad will be attending the Savannah College of Art and Design with the goal of eventually working for the Disney Corporation.
Lucas Trask was a member of the varsity soccer, basketball and baseball teams. He is also a member of the Chester Fire Department, Rod and Gun Club and Snowmobile Club. Trask plans to be a professional firefighter and will be attending Southern Maine Community College.
The Chester Rotary Club is pleased to support the continuing education of these students. Scholarship money is raised through the support of local businesses and community members at the annual Chester Rotary Ladd Dinner and Auction held annually in March.
