Paraeducator charged with luring a student

RUTLAND—On April 12, 2016, the Department of Children and Family Services (DCF) notified the Vermont State Police of their concern about an inappropriate relationship between Cynthia J. McKearin and a 15-year-old student. McKearin, 45, is a paraeducator for the Sheldon Academy of Vermont Achievement Center (VAC) in the City of Rutland. Investigation revealed that McKearin mentored the 15-year-old student at the VAC and communicated sexually with him through Facebook. McKearin was issued a citation to appear in Rutland Superior Court on June 13, 2016, to answer to the charge, Luring a Child.
The Rutland Unit for Special Investigations (RUSI) is a multi-disciplinary team that investigates, prosecutes, and serves victims of sex crimes and child victims of severe physical abuse throughout Rutland County.
