Saturday, June 4 at 7 p.m. — LUDLOW — “Wild” is the next FOLA film featured at the Ludlow Town Hall on Saturday, June 4 at 7 p.m.

“Wild” is a 2014 American biographical drama film directed by Jean-Marc Vallée. The screenplay by Nick Hornby is based on Cheryl Strayed’s 2012 memoir “Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail.” The film stars Reese Witherspoon as Strayed, alongside Laura Dern (as Strayed’s mother), with Thomas Sadoski, Michiel Huisman and Gaby Hoffmann among several others in supporting roles. The film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival on Aug. 29, 2014 and was released theatrically on Dec. 3, 2014 in North America. “Wild” opened to positive critical reviews, with much praise going toward the performances of Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern. Both actresses received Academy Award nominations for their performances, in the categories of Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress respectively.

After years of reckless behavior, a heroin addiction and the destruction of her marriage, Cheryl Strayed makes a rash decision. Haunted by memories of her mother Bobbi and with absolutely no experience, she sets out to hike more than a thousand miles on the Pacific Crest Trail all on her own. This film powerfully reveals her terrors and pleasures, as she forges ahead on a journey that maddens, strengthens, and ultimately heals her.

It is a journey that begins in the Mojave Desert in Southern Calif. and ends at the Bridge of the Gods that crosses the Columbia River between Oregon and Washington. The 94-day trek is a tale of adventure and redemption. Though rated R for brief scenes, the bulk of the movie concentrates on a woman’s drive to recover her pride and sense of worth.

The film is free; donations are appreciated. Popcorn and water will be provided. For info, call 802-228-7239.
