Join lakes region community for water quality protection efforts

Friday, June 3 at 8:30 a.m. — CASTLETON — The lakes and ponds program of the Vermont Watershed Management Division and Vermont Federation of Lakes and Ponds will hold Vermont’s annual lake seminar on Friday, June 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. at the Edward Kehoe Education Center at Lake Bomoseen, 636 Point of Pines Road, Castleton. The program is intended to celebrate lakes and to encourage residents to join in water quality protection efforts focused on lakes.

The theme for this year’s event is “From Policy to Action.” Keynoter speaker Kris Stepenuk from the UVM Sea Grant Program will share her experiences connecting volunteer monitoring efforts to natural resource policy and management action.

Additional, morning presentations include tactical basin planning, grant opportunities, invasive species and an overview of citizen science opportunities in Vermont. Afternoon workshops cover a variety of topics including septic systems and turtle nesting habitat.

There will be something for everyone and plenty of opportunity during the day to network with fellow lake leaders from around the state.

To register, visit the Vermont Federation of Lakes and Ponds website at vermontlakes.org/about-us/lake-seminar.

Registration deadline is June 1.
