CASTLETON—Castleton University’s Academic Excellence award is given annually to a student who is deemed the top student in his or her major.The following students have received the award: Vincent Guerrera of Belmont, majoring in communication; Paolo Loli of Bomoseen, in computer information systems; Josselyn Swett of Castleton, majoring in literature; Alexander Adams of Rutland, majoring in history; Anthony Ciranni of Castleton, majoring in music education; Rachel Bombardier of Pittsford, majoring in exercise science; Mikaela Whitaker of Killington, majoring in nursing; Shannon Moriarity of Benson, majoring in psychology; and Karen Marino of Rutland, majoring in sociology/criminology.
Paolo Loli received both the SGA International Student of the Year Award and the Abel E. Leavenworth Leadership award. The SGA award is given annually to a non-traditional student who is active on campus, positive, ready to learn and eager to help. The Abel E. Leavenworth award is given annually to student-leaders who exemplify Abel Leavenworth’s characteristics of warmth, integrity, strong principles and wise counsel.
Douglas Yaremchuk of No. Clarendon received the SGA Non-Traditional Student of the Year award. This award is given annually to a non-traditional student who is active on campus, positive, ready to learn, and eager to help.
The following students received the SGA Community Service award for the 2015-16 academic year: Susan Gay of Fair Haven and Daniel Warnecke of Poultney. This award is given annually for outstanding volunteer service to the Castleton/Rutland County community.
Matthew Eckler of Fair Haven was given the Alpha Psi Omega Theatre Honor Society Freshman of the Year award. This award is given annually to a first-year theatre major who has proven him/herself both academically and theatrically and has displayed a passion for theatre, respect for fellow students and professors, and immense dedication to both our department and the shows we produce.
