24th Annual Vermont Sports Medicine Center’s 5K Run/Walk slated for April 30

Proceeds benefit Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports and Kids on the Move
RUTLAND—The 24th Annual Vermont Sports Medicine Center’s (VSMC) 5K Run/Walk will be held this year on Saturday, April 30 and all proceeds from the event will benefit Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports and Kids on the Move. The annual event has become a staple among the “first 5Ks of the season,” where all ages and abilities are welcome to walk or run for two local causes.
“Vermont Sports Medicine Center has been in the community for over 28 years and we believe it is important and socially responsible to give back to our community,” said Maureen Gibeault, PT, director of Vermont Sports Medicine Center. “As an organization that focuses on health, wellness and fitness by providing physical and occupational therapy services to patients who are trying to restore function and return to activity, work and sport, doing something for and contributing to organizations such as Kids on the Move and Vermont Adaptive Ski is a natural fit.
“The patient population seen at Vermont Sports Medicine Center when given the opportunity, can enjoy and resume physical activity independently. While the individuals who avail themselves of services provided by Kids on the Move and VT Adaptive Ski are not so fortunate. These are incredible organizations that are vital to the communities they serve, and our staff has felt it is very important to do what we can to support them by giving back and the 24th Annual VSMC Road Race is just one way to help.”
The 5K course starts and finishes at VSMC, located at 5 Albert Cree Drive, across from Rutland Regional Medical Center. Preregistration is suggested and first 100 people to preregister will receive an event t-shirt. The cost to preregister is $20 for adults, $15 for kids ages 10-17. Day of registration cost increases by $5. Kids under 10 are $5 and adaptive athletes participate for free.
The Kids Fun Run begins at 10 a.m. with the 5K run/walk immediately following after the fun run. Adaptive athlete run will start at 9:45 a.m. Refreshments will be available for all participants, and prizes will be awarded to first-place finishers in all runner age groups.
