Three dead after car strikes tree

CASTLETON — On Saturday, March 19 at 4:16 a.m. Castleton Police Department was dispatched to a one-car motor vehicle accident on Drake Road in the town of Castleton. When they arrived on the scene at 4:24 a.m. Castleton Fire Department and First Response determined that there were three occupants inside, and all three were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The three occupants were identified as Andrew F. Laramie, age 26 from Castleton; Caleb C. Kinney, age 24 from Fair Haven; and Samantha J. Forrest age 23 from Castleton.

The Castleton Police Department reported that Laramie was the driver of the 2006 grey Saab. Laramie was traveling west on Drake road, left the roadway and collided with a tree causing extensive damage to the vehicle. Kinney and Forrest were passengers. All three victims were extricated from the vehicle by Poultney Fire Rescue.

The victims were transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington for autopsy examinations. The investigation is ongoing.

Forrest was a senior at Castleton University and Kinney was an alumnus. An email was sent to all students, faculty and staff after the crash, said Jeff Weld, director of marketing and communications for Castleton University.
