Sunday, March 27 —KILLINGTON — The annual Matt Harnett Memorial Foundation Race is scheduled for Sunday, March 27, at Killington. The Foundation was established to honor Matt Harnett’s coaching contributions to Killington Ski Club Alpine Hopefuls and Alpine Stars programs, and to provide support and financial assistance to young athletes in the future. In addition to the race, there will be a raffle with over $10,000 in prizes including a Killington Pico season pass, Red Sox tickets, and vacations.
Matt Harnett passed away in November 2012 of cancer. Matt was a coach in the programs for many years and was well known for his passion for the sport of skiing, terrific sense of humor and his outstanding rapport with the young athletes he loved to coach.
The monies raised are dedicated to helping young athletes in financial need participate in the Killington Ski Club/Killington Mountain School competitive programs by offsetting fees and costs. The Matt Harnett Memorial Foundation scholarship committee is responsible for the review, approval and award of monies to the applicants.
Matt Harnett was a beloved friend, coach and mentor, to many area residents and fequent visitors and is missed, especially by the young athletes he coached over the years. Donations to the Matt Harnett Memorial Foundation will provide many young athletes an opportunity to develop their competitive skiing skills, a lifelong love of the sport like Harnett possessed, and their own personal growth that comes from a fun and engaging team environment in our programs.
The Matt Harnett Memorial Foundation appreciates any donation and wishes to thank those who help keep his memory and spirit alive, and helping young athletes.
Tax-deductible contribution can be made out to “The Killington Ski Club – Matt Harnett Memorial Foundation” and either dropped off at the KSC office or mailed to Killington Ski Club, PO Box 1066, Killington, VT 05751.
