Chandler and Chelsea Funnery team together for April Vacation Theatre Intensives in Shakespeare and Improvisation.
RANDOLPH — In honor of Shakespeare’s 400th, Chandler and Chelsea Funnery team together to present April Vacation Theatre Intensives in Shakespeare and Improvisation. There will be three April Vacation Theatre Intensives running April 18-22 serving ages 7-107. The cost will be $50 per person for one week-long program; payment plans and scholarships are available. No prior theatre experience is necessary, just a willingness to play.
The April Vacation Theatre Intensives will be taught by theater expert Kailie Larkin, co-director of the Chelsea Funnery program. Larkin has worked with the Governor’s Institute of the Arts, trained with Double Edge Theatre and is a member of The Royal Frog Ballet. A Vermonter by birth, Larkin braved the urban jungle and now holds a M.S. in Educational Theatre from City College of N.Y. She works as a teaching artist in New York and Vermont to bring her love of the arts to students of all ages. She also creates original work as a writer, actor and director. Chandler is excited and honored to work with Kailie on this collaborative program.
There are opportunities for all ages, youth through adult, at the April Vacation Theatre Intensives. Each program will run Monday through Friday and conclude with a sharing for family and friends. The first program is “Shakespeare’s World: A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. each morning for ages 7-11. Actors will dive into the rich world of one of Shakespeare’s most magical plays and make it their own through games and scenes and creative “re-tellings.”
The second program offered is “Master Class: Shakespeare Scenes,” and will run from 1 to 4 p.m. each afternoon for ages 12-18. Actors will explore physical theatre, voice training, mask, and improvisation to bring some of Shakespeare’s most famous scenes to new life.
The third program is “Long-form Improv: The Armando!” and will run from 4:15 to 6:15 p.m. each afternoon for ages 14 and over — older actors and adults welcome! This Intensive will immerse actors in the wild science of long-form improvisation. Actors will experience a condensed training in the Armando form, and learn how to listen and tune to each other so by the end of the week they will have the tools to perform together as an improv ensemble.
Actors 12 and over are welcome to attend both afternoon intensives. The workshops are priced at $50 per week with available scholarships in hopes of making the program accessible to all, and to encourage community participation.
