Rutland Rec receives Tarrant Community Grant

RUTLAND—The Rutland Recreation and Parks Department announced March 17 that it has received a $5,000 grant from the Tarrant Foundation to be applied toward a new multi-purpose floor at the Godnick Adult Center’s recreation room. The current floor is linoleum over concrete. The new floor will have a cushion to properly support fitness classes and also be completely washable for meals, meetings and other uses of the room. Lori Hickey, program director at the Godnick Center explained that “the new floor will allow us to expand our fitness offerings for our active 50-and-over community members and provide a safer surface for our current programs.” The department will continue to fundraise and apply for grants towards the new floor with an estimated cost of $17,500.

The Richard E. and Deborah L. Tarrant Foundation is one of the top private grantmakers in Vermont. Each year, 50-70 Community Grants are awarded to non-profits supporting programs for youth, working-age adults and seniors.

The Godnick Adult Center is one of four main facilities run by the Rutland Recreation & Parks Department. The primary focus of the Center is to provide programming for adult residents who are 50 and over.

The Rutland Rec Department is located at 16 North Street Extension.
