The Pittsburgh-based funk band the Chop Shop will be headlining BarnArts fourth Annual Masquerade Jazz and Funk Winter Music Carnival, Saturday, March 5.
Saturday, March 5 at 6 p.m. — BARNARD — Back again this year is the Chop Shop, the Pittsburgh-based funk band, to headline BarnArts’ 4th Annual Masquerade Jazz and Funk scheduled from 6 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, March 5 at Barnard Town Hall.
This winter music carnival with a New Orleans flavor promises five hours of music from four musical groups that include the always-popular Woodstock Union High School Jazz Funk Band with their New Orleans-style brass band music; Sonny, Bill & Pete (The Bernie Trio) with Barnard’s Bill Martin, Sonny Saul and Pete Michelinie; and The Lounge Leopards including Barnard’s Kathleen Dolan and Mark van Gulden.
All this jazz and funk, plus a taco bar, a create-your-own-mask table, a photo booth and, new this year, an original mask silent auction fundraiser, come with the price of a ticket: $20 adults, $10 students, 6 and under free. Tickets may be purchased on line at www.barnarts.org or at the door.
Party-goers are invited in advance to make a mask to contribute to the silent auction that will be held at this evening. Proceeds support BarnArts Summer Youth Theater. Included in the auction will also be BarnArts masks created by artist Murray Ngoima for last summer’s production of “The Jungle Book.” To register an original mask for donation to the silent auction, please send an email to info@barnarts.org or call 234-1645. Displays of masks and a mask-making table with appropriate supplies will encourage everyone to get into the carnival spirit.
This party for all ages opens with Sonny, Bill & Pete’s interpretive contemporary jazz. After this warm up The Lounge Leopards make their entrance. Van Gulden and Dolan are well known to the area as they perform regularly at events. This evening they will be joined by singer John Solaperto.
This is a BYOB evening; however locally prepared tacos come with the ticket. For more information, contact 802-234-1645, info@barnarts.org or www.BarnArts.org.
