Sunday, March 6 at 3 p.m. — WEST RUTLAND — The seventh annual West Rutland Variety Show will take to the stage of the West Rutland Town Hall on Sunday, March 6 at 3 p.m. Members of the West Rutland and Rutland communities will perform music, comedy and dance, showcasing local talent to raise money for the West Rutland Food Shelf.

Terry Jaye from WJJR will serve as the Master of Ceremonies.Members of St. Bridget and St. Stanislaus Kostka Churches in West Rutland will perform, as will the Rutland Curbstone Chorus and Castleton University’s a cappella group Vocal Unrest. Dancers from Just Dance Studio will perform, and adult and youth singers, musicians and comedians will round out the program. The event will also feature a 50/50 raffle and a bake sale. All funds raised will go directly to the West Rutland Food Shelf.

The West Rutland Food Shelf has been providing services to the West Rutland community since January 2009. In the first full month the Food Shelf was open, it provided food to 14 families from all towns. At the end of 2015, the Food Shelf had 75 active West Rutland families on their list. The Food Shelf relies on the generosity of the community, businesses, and organizations to keep its shelves filled, and since there is an on-going need for food, there is always a need for community support. The Food Shelf is open 24 Saturdays per year and is located on Marble Street in West Rutland, Vermont.

The West Rutland Variety Show for the West Rutland Food Shelf is the seventh show organized for charitable causes. In 2010, St. Bridget’s Church hosted a Variety Show to benefit relief efforts in Haiti, with Terry Jaye from WJJR as Master of Ceremonies, and in 2011 the benefit was for Japan, after the devastating tsunami the country experienced. The Variety Show of 2012 enabled the construction of a well for orphaned children in Kampala, Uganda. The following year, the show benefited the Rutland Dismas House and was the first year the event sponsored a local charity. In 2014, proceeds from the show went to Pure Water for the World, a Rutland-based organization providing clean water solutions to communities in Haiti and Honduras. Last year, the variety show benefited The Mentor Connector, a Rutland-based organization that offers mentoring opportunities for Rutland County youth. The purpose of the variety show is to unite members of the local community in celebration of individual talents to fulfill a critical need in the global and local communities.

For tickets, call 802-438-2490. Prices are $8 for adults; $5 for seniors/children (under 12); with a$20 family cap. The West Rutland Town Hall is located at 35 Marble Street, West Rutland.
