On Feb. 10 the American Red Cross announced this year’s selection of “everyday people” to be honored for the heroic things they do in their community. The Everyday Heroes awards are celebrated all over the country; the awards honor people who personify the Red Cross mission of service and help in local communities. To herald “March is Red Cross Month,” Vermont will honor local heroes at the 2016 Everyday Heroes Awards on March 10, 2016, in South Burlington.
“Everyday heroes are all around us–the good Samaritan who intervenes when someone is in an accident, or the watchful neighbor seeing a need in a community. These awards shine light on selflessness of heart and heroism of character,” the organization stated in a recent release.
Maria Devlin, CEO for the American Red Cross in Vermont and New Hampshire, added, “The Red Cross sees a perfect fit in honoring people who’ve gone the extra mile on behalf of someone else, or have risked their lives for the sake of another. This selflessness embodies the work that Red Cross volunteers around the world do every single day.”
The 2016 Everyday Heroes Award winners in Vermont and New Hampshire include:
Tracey Fowler of Rutland, for dedication to handicapped animal rescue
Ann Delaney of Enosburg Falls, for giving of herself to save the life of another
Bruce Parmentar of Essex Junction, for dedication to the importance of blood donation
Lori Congdon of Bennington, for lifting up others in need
Mazie and Bryan Smith of Morrisville, for life changing dedication
Barry Martin of Lebanon, N.H., for an heroic act to save the life of another
Chris Fanning of Starksboro, for saving another by using lifesaving skills
